The journey starts

As I have described in previous posts and on other pages on this website, I live as a digital nomad when my client obligations allow to work remotely from the distance.

My current contract is 100% remote and I use this opportunity to explore southern France, where I will live in the small town of Laure-Minervois for the next 9 months. Laure-Minervois is located just outside Carcassonne in the Aude department of France.

The trip

The trip to Laure-Minervois starts in the very northern parts of Denmark, where I have spend the last week at my thirty year old son’s home after packing all my belongings in a storage facility. It was a great week with my son, which was concluded with a nice birthday diner at the San Giovanni restaurant in Aalborg to celebrate my sixty year birthday with friends and family.

The very next morning I rose early and jumped into my old Volvo and started the 2200km trip to southern France. I had chosen to prioritize beauty over speed and drive as quickly into France as possible instead of just drive fast down the germen Autobahn.

First stint was from my starting point in Frederikshavn, Denmark, to Sedan in north eastern France. 1200km – only problem was that I had to sleep an hour more due to the birthday party and that the reception at the hotel in Sedan was closing at 2100 hour in the evening, so all driving breaks during this first sting was very minimal to avoid loosing time and all meals was consumed during driving…

Mission accomplished and I arrived at the hotel in Sedan at 20:55 – just 5 minutes before closure. Then it was time to settle down over a nice italian wine before going to sleep. Probably the last Italian wine in the next two months, where I will explore the local French wine castles in the Minervois area ….

The next morning I got a refreshing shower and got back in the car to drive the last 1000km of my journey to southern France. I started at 7:00 AM to get on the road as soon as possible to be able to reach Laure-Minervois in the late afternoon. The day started with mist and light rain, but after 3 hours driving and around Dijon the southern heat started to kick in and for the rest of the trip I had the most beautiful weather; blue sky, lots of sun and above 20 degrees.

The second and last stint went well without any problems, despite some traffic jam around Lyon. But that’s fair enough, just happy I passed here Sunday at noon and not Friday afternoon ….

I reached Laure-Minervois around 1700 in the afternoon and was welcomed by my dear friends Lotte and Jan, who live here permanently. I have borrowed their guest house for the next 6-9 month, but that’s covered in a future blog post.

Stay tuned for more stories from this beautiful place in the south.
